At this point, chef Mario Batali is essentially a brand ambassador for Crocs. They’re definitely still not cool but thanks to Batali, they are acceptable footwear for the kitchen, and for him, everywhere else too. Today on the Rachael Ray Show, Batali was asked how many pairs of crocs he owns.
He said, “Crocs and I had a long relationship, and they decided to discontinue this particular color—the one that has the light, refreshing airy holes…So I asked them before they finished the run if they could just run me what we perceived would be a lifetime supply.” Batali is 55 now, and he estimated that he’ll live to be 130 years old, and decided that if he goes through 2 pairs a year, 200 would be enough to presumably last him a lifetime.
200 pairs of crocs are insane, but the idea of Batali living to be 130 is pretty outstanding. More time on earth means more pasta and more of his pasta means more happiness. Bring on the orange crocs.
