Late night’s Seth Meyers announced Monday night that his wife, attorney Alexi Ashe, gave birth to their second child, a son named Axel, in the lobby of their building — and explained the ordeal in hilarious fashion.
The couple was on their way to the hospital with when the baby came “over the course of a minute” while they were in the elevator, and then in the lobby.
“She looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants,” Meyers explained on his show. “It was like someone was trying to sneak a baby on the plane.”
The couple ended up returning to the lobby of their apartment building, where Meyers called 911.
“This is how fast it happened,” Meyers said. “I called 911, and over the course of a minute conversation, I basically said: ‘we’re about to have a baby, we’re having a baby, we had a baby.'”
“I went from someone calling in about an emergency to just sharing good news about a baby,” Meyers joked.
The fire department arrived to cut the umbilical cord and give Ashe oxygen until the new mother of two could be moved to the hospital.
Ashe and Meyers made it to the hospital “with basically 20 minutes to spare” before their first son, Ashe, arrived. You’d think they’d be prepared this time!
