Art Smith’s Flick-the-Hate Fundraiser A Success, Hopes To Expand It

Art Smith has been speaking out against Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy’s anti-gay position since Cathy first announced it. On Sunday, in order to fight back against the donations Chick-fil-A has provided to anti-gay organizations over the years, Art held a fundraiser at his house to benefit Equality Illinois. Photographer John Shaft posted photos from the event online today.

The fundraiser, which was co-hosted by his husband Jesus Salgueiro, was a chicken fry called Flick the Hate. Unfortunately, it looks like Art didn’t wear Chik-fil-A drag, but the Hawaiian shirt he went with is still pretty snazzy. The event was a big success; all in, 80 people attended, which made it a full house. Art has been excitedly tweeting pictures all morning including one of his puppy showing some “kind chicken” support. Aw.

Art’s also been tweeting about his desire to have Flick-the-Hate parties sweep the nation:

restaurants across Chicago are having Flick The Hate parties to show support:-) Need them across the US.

Congratulations on a successful fundraiser, Art!
