Presidential daughter Chelsea Clinton might have a group of powerful friends (including her BFF Stephen Colbert), but there’s only one chef who’s as close to her heart as the tortellini digesting in her stomach: Mario Batali. While speaking to a crowd at the Food Bank for New York Can Do Awards at Cipriani Wall Street, she revealed that Batali and his restaurants had been home to many of the important events in her life.
“It’s not hyperbole to say I could not imagine my life in New York or really my life in general without Mario,” she said, according to Page Six. “The first meal I shared with the man I am now very happy to call my husband and the people I am now very happy to call my husband’s in-laws, otherwise known as my parents, was at Babbo. Thankfully, that went well.”
That man, Marc Mezvinsky, ended up marrying Clinton in 2010 at a private, power-elite celebration in upstate New York that featured a vegetarian menu apparently not catered by the Batali folks. Unless Batali was busy dancing with the bride, we think that qualifies as a snub.
