Closing of Momofuku Milk Bar SoHo Brings End to 6-Year Band of Outsiders Collaboration

Christina_Tosi_at_Hot_Bread_KitchenMomofuku Milk Bar‘s Christina Tosi has been collaborating with Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg since 2009, when Anna Wintour‘s annual, economy-boosting Fashion’s Night Out stunt required retailers to invent gimmicks to attract customers to shop full-priced merchandise.

The Band of Outisders FNO tote bag contained peanut butter Mexican wedding cookies, a FNO tee shirt featured Cookie Monster.

And while Sternberg, a former CAA agent and self-proclaimed cookie obsessive, kept a poorly maintained cookie blog on the Band of Outsiders website, mostly in praise of Starbucks and Girl Scout Cookies, he told The New York Times he ate nothing but Tosi’s cookies during New York Fashion Week. According to Wikipedia, she developed flavors for his NYFW shows including “Thai Tea Cookie, Gold Gilt Gangster, Lemon Tree Hugger, Black Sesame Cookie, Mexican Wedding Cookie, Smoked Oat – Maple Hokey Pokey, Lady Day, Man-Hide, and Cookie Noir.”

At FNO, her cookies came free with the purchase of one-off BOO tee shirts and $20 hand-drawn tote bags, and in 2014, Momofuku and Band of Outsiders made the ultimate collaboration, opening a bakery outpost at the designer’s new SoHo store. But since the clothing line recently dissolved, the boutique shuttered this weekend and the nearly one-year old outpost with it.
