The Lomita chef had confessed his grisly crime multiple times to both his family and the authorities, and flung himself off an 80-foot cliff in an apparent suicide attempt after he’d learned that he was a suspect in his wife’s disappearance in 2009.
Despite these facts, he pled not guilty and attempted to fire his lawyer in order to represent himself during the end of the trial.
None of the preceding facts are good ideas, and David Viens should not be held up by anyone as a role model in any way, shape or form.
Viens is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 27. He could face 15 years to life in prison.
