It’s hard out there for a bartender — long nights, rowdy patrons, the highest quality booze stacked behind you, women dancing on bars, being king of your own little five-foot-wide domain. Oh wait, did we say “hard”? We meant it’s a raucous empire of amazing hedonism.
Such is the life in Hey, Bartender!, a new feature-length documentary premiering on July 7th. It’s already gained buzz in the film festival circuit, and looks to be, at the very least, full of cocktail porn. (There may also be human drama and footage of crazy parties, but we’re here only for the cocktail porn.)
We’re also excited because the synopsis from Apple.com name-checks a New York restaurant magnate:
Two bartenders try to achieve their dreams through bartending. An injured Marine turns his goals to becoming a principal bartender at the best cocktail bar in the world. A young man leaves his white-collar job to buy the corner bar in his hometown; years later he struggles to keep afloat. The bar is three deep, and the bartenders are in the weeds at the greatest cocktail party since before Prohibition. Hey Bartender is the story of the rebirth of the bartender and the comeback of the cocktail. Featuring the world’s most renowned bartenders and access to the most exclusive bars in New York with commentary from Graydon Carter, Danny Meyer and Amy Sacco.
