Ivan Orkin’s NYC Ramen Shop Now Has A Location And Some Menu Items

Ivan Orkin, he of the game-changing, high-falutin’, hand-pulled noodle-slinging Ivan Ramen and Ivan Ramen Plus in Tokyo, is indeed opening up shop in NYC and his new outpost now has a location.

Earlier this week, a tipster noticed “Ivan Ramen” on an agenda handed out at a Lower East Side community board meeting and yesterday, Orkin confirmed the location to the New York Times’ Florence Fabricant.

Mr. Orkin now hopes to open a restaurant in the spring on the Lower East Side in what was Ed’s Lobster Bar Annex at 25 Clinton Street, between East Houston and Stanton Streets. The plan hinges on a community board hearing in about two weeks. “I want to have a liquor license,” he said.

He plans 60 seats, with a bar up front, a ramen counter in back, several tables and what he calls a Japanese garden. He expects to serve ramen in soup; ramen that’s more like pasta, with condiments; and some typical Japanese bar food, but no sushi.

Indeed, this morning Orkin tweeted that his “head is swimming w/ details for new shop on Clinton”, so expect more where that came from. And don’t forget — he’s hiring.
