Jean-Georges Vongerichten Plans To Open Artisanal Market In NYC

Love the concept of Eataly, but over the insanity of every visit? Good news: There’s a new wonderland of artisanal goods coming soon to an 8,500-square foot New York City space near you! This one will be helmed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who plans to open an Eataly-esque market in the basement space of ABC Carpet & Home’s flagship in the Flatiron District.

Harrod’s started the concept, and look at the success of Eataly,” JGV told Side Dish. “It’s just an idea now. But food is a part of life. People are foodies and love to shop for food. We will keep it very local and very American. There may not be good olive oil in New York, for example, so we will bring it in from California.”

We dig American, but we do wish Eataly had a French counterpart. Ah, well.

On the upside, ABC Kitchen has reopened in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Vongerichten, meanwhile, has been living out of the Mark Hotel, since his SoPo home has been flooded and without power.
