The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon premiered last night, and in the midst of a gut-wrenchingly sincere performance from the host, he admitted that he and Spike Lee had to scrap their original concept for the opening credits, because all it featured was Jimmy eating…
Yes, Fallon recruited New York native Spike Lee to help him shoot the opening, and their idea was to shoot Jimmy in iconic late-night New York City eateries — Red Rooster Harlem, Katz’s Deli, etc. And then Jimmy realized that he wasn’t achieving his Food Network dreams; he was hosting The Tonight Show. So they got some standard sprawling nighttime skyline shots and called it a day.
