Now that we’re back from the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen (and successfully reaclimated — that altitude is no bueno), we wanted to share with you a little bit of our experience. We posted our chat with Paul Qui (and have a few more interviews with the likes of Andrew Zimmern and Harold Dieterle headed your way), but by far the highlight of our trip was Jose Andres’ kickoff party, hosted at a $27 million “Tuscan” villa in the Buttermilk hills.
The guestlist included Jacques Pepin, Giada DeLaurentiis, Marcus Samuelsson (and his awesome pants), Harold Dieterle, Andrew Zimmern, and Drew Nieperont, among others, but the stars of the evening were Andres’ team from Zatinya, who served up endless trays of Iberico pork sliders, Iberico pork ribs, Iberico pork skirt steaks, garlic shrimp, pan con tomate, and salt cod. Did we mention there was Iberico? Even the stars were starstruck — if not by the food, then by the house, which is currently listed for just under $27 million and featured a movie theater (where Andres would later Ole, Ole, Ole! the Oklahoma Thunder to a crushing loss) and kitchen countertops perfect for dancing.
We skipped the dancing in favor of hovering next to the Iberico ham “tacos” which were topped with sturgeon caviar and hoarding the pork ribs. Not even Jacques Pepin telling late night jokes fireside could tear us from the grill, and we don’t regret a bite of it.
