Thanks to a fortuitous reception at the recent Fox Network upfronts, Gordon Ramsay is about to make a few bushels of cash off the tiny backs of children. Junior Masterchef, a kid-sized spinoff of Masterchef, will be produced by Ramsay’s home network to air by 2013 or 2014, according to Variety.
We reported back in January that Junior Masterchef had already begun casting for its motley crew of eight-to-13-year-olds willing to be taught the arts of cooking by a creaky British golem. With Fox giving the production the greenlight, as well as signing Masterchef judges Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot to glare at children, we’ve learned something new today: the exploitation of children makes boatloads of cash. Who knew?
Ramsay doesn’t see things that way, giving the following statement: “Having my own children who love to cook, I know firsthand the skill and passion these kids can have at such a young age, and what they can do with it. It’s just extraordinary to watch them in action.”
He better not be going soft on us. What Fox Network and Ramsay don’t know, however, is that we managed to get an exclusive sneak peek of Junior Masterchef — and Ramsay’s right, these kids are super passionate about food!
