News today broke that the James Beard Foundation will add some new categories to the awards submissions, which open today. (It’s not just all about Top Chef today.) Eater shares that the first category added to the awards, the first in years, is the Outstanding Baker award, to recognize that it’s not just restaurant pastry chefs who deserve accolades. The foundation stated in a press release, “The Outstanding Baker award grew from our desire to honor those professionals working beyond the restaurant dessert realm. Along with Outstanding Pastry Chef, this award acknowledges the vitality of the pastry and baking professions, in restaurants and in bakeries of many kinds, and the importance of bread and dessert to the dining experience.”
Who could be nominated for such an award? Now we’re hungry (get it?) to see.
