New Orleans Chefs Throw Benefit Dinner To Help Chef Pay Medical Bills

Your daily, heartwarming, super-sweet “Awwwwww!” moment in a time that needs it: this evening, New Orleans’ best chefs are throwing a benefit to help out one of their own in his fight against stomach cancer.

Quan Tran, the chef de cuisine at Tamarind, has been out of commission since his diagnosis in March, and his health insurance lapsed into COBRA earlier this month, according to As a result, his boss, chef Dominique Macquet, rallied the culinary community of New Orleans to help Tran with his medical bills — and it resulted in a large chef benefit, held tonight at Le Foret.

Some of the participants include chefs Matt Murphy of Irish House, Brian Landry of Borgne, Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace, René Bajeux of René Bistrot.
