New York University President John Sexton (of forgetting that The Colbert Report is satire fame) seized upon his latest plutocratical impulses (following the purchase of an island on which to expand his not-so-humble university, and the decision to begin granting loans to professors for luxe summer homes) and is moving forward with the plan to expand NYU’s campus, allegedly with a public park improperly given to them by the city.
You know who’s not having the expansion plan besides “Ferris Bueller” and “that guy from The Violent Femmes”? Padma “Preservation” Lakshmi, that’s who. She’ll be sitting in the audience at the State Supreme Court hearing today, where groups like Faculty Against the Sexton Plan are suing the school for, among other things, improper land-use to build 1.9 million square feet across two blocks in Greenwich Village.
Be honest, Padma. You’re just tired of those obnoxious NYU kids stampeding across your block every morning, aren’t you? We’re sympathetic.
