All through his Parts Unknown press junket, Anthony Bourdain hyped the episode shot in the Democratic Republic of Congo, calling it “the most terrifying, stressful, physically difficult shoot of [his] life,” while simultaneously painting it as a lifelong dream come true for a Joseph Conrad nerd and Apocalypse Now fanboy.
Tonight, that episode finally airs, the finale of an 8-episode foray into CNN travelogueing. We’ve already shown you sneak peeks of his beloved riverboat, The Captain Willard, and the treacherous fishing methods used by the Congolese, but before Bourdain and ZPZ even get to that point, they have to brave this super scary thunderstorm in a tiny bush plane that used to carry Queen Elizabeth’s wardrobe. A worthy vessel.
