WATCH: California High School Serves Fried Chicken, Cornbread, Watermelon for ‘Black History Month Celebration’

The dear-hearts at Carondelet High School for Girls in Concord, CA wanted to figure out a way to celebrate Black History Month for one special lunchtime celebration. But instead of lining up a scholar or an advocate who could speak to today’s young minds about why celebrating Black History Month is important for us as a people, or even just playing this video, school administration decided that the best way to honor the students’ request for a special celebration would be to serve fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon for a special “Black History Month” lunch.

Students and parents were outraged (duh) and offended (obviously), so the dean and the principal held a general assembly and sent out an apology letter. When approached by local news, the dean said, “We talked about it. There’s no issue. It’s done.”

The school’s Black Student Union just wanted administration to take the watermelon off the menu. Like, please. Check out the report below. We’ll just be over here cringing.

Seriously, playing this would have been less inappropriate.
