Washingtonians who are also fans of Top Chef have a new reason to be excited: Spike Mendelsohn has just signed a lease on a new spot in Capitol Hill.
It’s set to be the location of his much-talked-about steak frites joint, Bearnaise — and the news comes about a month after the Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema tweeted a blind item about a Top Chef contestant whose food doesn’t come out on top. (Maybe he’s hoping everyone’s forgotten?) The concept for the spot was reportedly inspired by his time spent at culinary school in Paris, and a desire to provide the area with a new lunch option just in case pizza or burgers aren’t your thing.
The restaurant will open on the same block as Spike’s other places, We, The Pizza and Good Stuff Eatery, which makes us think that Spike takes the same approach to opening restaurants as he does to playing Monopoly. However, even though the location is official, none of the other details have been worked out yet — meaning you’ll have to wait a bit longer to don your fedora and eat some steak frites.
