Top Chef’s happy-go-lucky Season 3 winner Hung Huynh, who’s been busily juggling a growing empire of restaurants, has hit the skids on his Lower East Side spot The General. After multiple complaints voiced at Community Board 3 meetings from two people living in the neighboring condo, inspectors from the Department of Health stopped by twice this week to check out the space. With 29 violations, The General scored itself a C-grade, which, in the case of permitting issues, is enough to shutter the restaurant. Supposedly, Huynh’s Bowery resto failed to present valid operational permits, but proprietors are working to resolve the issue and insist that it’s only a temporary closure.
Hey, this could be much worse. At least he wasn’t shuttered for disgusting health code violations, the enormity of which coming from a Top Chef would make Colicchio’s brain explode inside his shiny dome. Safe to say we can blame the management and not the chef for this one?
