Tonight in Food TV: A Tribute to Marcella Hazan on ‘The Mind of a Chef’

The chef world was saddened to hear of the passing of Marcella Hazan, Italian cookbook author, back in September; now, PBS’ series The Mind of a Chef puts the legend back on the silver screen one last time.

April Bloomfield goes to her house to make a veal shank with Hazan, and Hazan makes us wish that she was our own Italian grandmother whipping up food in the kitchen. Bloomfield is obviously humbled and very excited to be there — “I’m blushing!” — and learns how to chop onions the Hazan way. “I don’t mind being told off by Hazan,” she says.

Bloomfield notes just how feisty Hazan, which makes us that much sadder that she’s gone. Check out the online exclusive of The Mind of a Chef, airing tonight.
