When four people get together to do a shot of mezcal, especially after imbibing a generous amount of Dogfish Head I.P.A., it’s generally expected that they’re going to, y’know, do a shot. They probably expect the fourth person, particularly if he’s the one who poured the double shot to begin with, to slam it. Particularly if said shot-pourer gave you a double shot, because his fancy French three-star Michelin restaurant Le Bernardin doesn’t carry shot glasses.
But Eric Ripert did not do a shot, because he’s the type to elegantly sip his mezcal and wonder why his best friend Anthony Bourdain and Bon Appetit’s Adam Rappoport and Andrew Knowlton are laughing at him. (Maybe it’s because when he goes to a bar, he pairs white wine with pigs-in-a-blanket. Just a guess.)
