Somebody told him to put on his humble big boy pants for this TV interview.
Naturally, CBS’ THE Dish tried to paint out the somewhat maligned Top Chef winner Nick Elmi to be a family man, when talking about his start in cooking. He talked about his supportive parents who encouraged him to drop out of college and go to culinary school, and his wife and children now. But at least we got to hear more about that infamous “aggressive” cooking style:
“I’ve always been aggressive in the way I cook … I — I’m more OCD, and I expect a lot of myself, so I expect a lot of everyone who’s with me in the kitchen. Sometimes that’s a little off-putting; I give directions a little quickly, I take a leadership position all the time, or try to, at least, … So when you’re on a show like that with 19 other chefs all kind of feel the same way, whoever is the most aggressive goes first.”
Well, that’s one way to look at it. Watch the Elmi apology tour, where he also talks Top Chef season, the James Beard nomination, and more.
