Filming scenes where people eat food is not an easy task: a food designer has to make multiple plates of food for every take committed to film, the actors have to keep on eating, and worst of all, all the alcohol is fake.
But in this preview of Treme’s third season, a group of megachefs — Tom Colicchio, Eric Ripert, David Chang, Wylie Dufresne, Alfred Portale, Jonathan Waxman, and a few others not mentioned — sit down and have a sumptuous, old-world French feast with Kim Dickens’s character Janette Desautel. (Related: our interview with Alfred Portale where he talks about filming this scene.) But for that one dinner, food designer Soa Davies had to put together not one, but three entire dinners worth of food, including a technically difficult hare a la royale. And then the chefs had to eat all of that — sometimes cold. (At least they had fun.)
