Do you live or work within a twenty block radius of 157 Second Avenue in the East Village? Because we do, and our life is buzzing with the news of Wylie Dufresne’s new pub Alder opening TONIGHT.
We had our suspicions that an opening was nigh, since Jean-Georges Vongerichten let a few snapshots of dishes leak via Twitter. (Okay, so its possible we had a momentary freakout, fearing that it had opened behind our backs, but eventually, clearer heads prevailed, and we realized Wylie and JGV are probably just besties.)
Admittedly, we’ve been a little jumpy regarding the open since its announcement last October (WHAT), its online ad seeking waitstaff posted in December (omg so soon!), and its menu tease in the New York Times last month, which announced that no entree would cost more than $25 (yippee).
