Shocking Video Shows Cynthia Erivo Leap to Protect Co-Star Ariana Grande as Crazed Fan Rushes Toward Her at ‘Wicked’ Premiere

A shocking viral video shows the moment Ariana Grande was rushed by a man who vaulted a barricade at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good on Thursday as co-star Cynthia Erivo fought to pull him away.

In the clip, the man is seen forcing his way past photographers and lunging at Grande as the cast walked a yellow carpet at Universal Studios Singapore. Erivo can be seen pulling the stunned actress away as security rushed in.

After the brief chaos, the premiere continued as planned, with co-stars including Michelle Yeoh and Erivo seen comforting Grande.

The man, later identified in court as 26-year-old Johnson Wen, was arrested and charged with being a public nuisance.

Wen later posted on Instagram that he was “free after being arrested.”

Wen describes himself as a “Troll Most Hated” on his social media feeds and his posts show previous incursions at celebrity events, including jumping on stage at pop star Katy Perry’s Sydney concert this past June and interrupting a show by The Chainsmokers last December, according to the BBC.

If convicted, he faces a fine of $1,540.

Some fans accused Wen of “re-traumatising” Grande, who has previously spoken about PTSD following the 2017 Manchester Arena attack in England during one of her concerts. Others faulted event security and urged platforms to remove Wen’s videos.

Grande has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
