BREAKING: Legendary Actress Diane Keaton Passes Away at 79
Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton has passed away at the age of 79, People was first to report on Saturday.
Keaton, known for films like Annie Hall and The First Wives Club, died in California, but further specifics are not available at this time. A family spokesperson confirmed the actress’s death and said her family is seeking privacy at this time. She has a son and a daughter named Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25.
Keaton won an Academy Award in 1977 for her work in Annie Hall. She would go on to be nominated three more times, for Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give. Keaton was still fairly active, appearing in two films in 2024 and two more in 2023. She first rose to fame in the 1970s thanks to roles in classics like The Godfather.
Keaton was born in Los Angeles as Diane Hall in 1946 and she was the oldest of four children. She cited her mother was a major influence to get into entertainment. Keaton dropped out of college and headed to New York in the ’60s to pursue her dream of acting. She ended up studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse and making her Broadway debut in Hair in 1968.
“Secretly in her heart of hearts she probably wanted to be an entertainer of some kind,” she told People about her stay-at-home mom in 2004. “She sang. She played the piano. She was beautiful. She was my advocate.”
Keaton’s father was a civil engineer.
The actress last wrote on her Instagram account in April, which she used fairly regularly, posting a photo with her golden retriever.
