CNN Anchor Grills RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump for Attacking an Anti-Trump GOP Candidate: ‘Are Willing to Cede’ a Senate Seat to the Dems?

Republican National Committee Co-Chair Lara Trump attacked a Senate candidate from her own party — whose election could determine control of the Senate in 2025.

In an interview on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, the RNC co-chair blasted Larry Hogan — a Republican who is running for Senate in Maryland — over his statement following the felony conviction of former President Donald Trump Thursday. Hogan, in response to Trump’s conviction, called on Americans to “respect the verdict.”

“I don’t support what he said there, I think it’s ridiculous,” Lara Trump said. She added, “He doesn’t deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party at this point. And, quite frankly, anybody in America — if that’s the way you feel. That’s very upsetting to hear that.”

Trump adviser Chris LaCivita responded to Hogan’s remarks by saying “you just ended your campaign.” In light of LaCivita’s statement, CNN’s Kasie Hunt followed up with Lara Trump by asking whether the RNC plans to cut ties with Hogan and essentially write off a key race which could determine control of the senate.

“Are you willing to cede the Senate seat in Maryland to the Democratic Party and not support Larry Hogan?” Hunt asked.

“We, of course, want to win as a party,” Lara Trump said. “But that is a shame. And I think he should have thought long and hard before he said that publicly.”

“Are you willing to use Republican Party resources to support his bid or not?” Hunt said, pressing. “It sounds like you’re saying you’re not.”

Lara Trump was non-committal.

“I’ll get back to you on all the specifics monetarily,” she said. “But what I can tell you is that as the Republican Party co-chair, I think you should never have said something like that. I think that’s ridiculous.”
