Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) dropped an f-bomb when asked by NBC News about whether he’s ever dreamed of moving into the White House.
Gallego, who served five terms in the House of Representatives before easily defeating Republican Kari Lake in a last year’s Senate race, will hold a town hall event in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a swing area in perhaps the single most pivotal swing state in American presidential elections.
After being asked if he had ever considered the possibility of running for president, Gallego called the question a “land mine” before nevertheless responding bluntly.
“Has it ever crossed my mind? F—ing of course, I’m an elected official, it crosses my mind. Am I thinking about it right now? Absolutely not,” he told NBC.
Still Gallego eagerly acknowledged that there’s supposedly some momentum behind a potential 2028 campaign for the highest office in the land.
“Big donors, big organizations, well-known political big Democratic operatives that have encouraged me to run. I’m not denying that,”
Gallego defeated Lake by almost two-and-half points in 2024, narrowly outperforming Katie Hobbs’s 2022 showing, when she bested Lake by less than a point in the Grand Canyon’s State’s gubernatorial race despite facing significant headwinds. Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris lost the state to Donald Trump by over 5 points.
Other top potential contenders for the 2028 Democratic nomination include Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
