By a strong margin, Americans find it “unacceptable” for President Donald Trump’s administration to accept a $400 million jet from Qatar, according to a new poll.
According to the poll taken Monday by YouGov, a plurality of Americans believe that it is not acceptable for the Department of Defense to accept the luxury aircraft from the Qatari royal family — which will be used as Air Force One for the balance of Trump’s presidency, then later be transferred to Trump’s library foundation.
“Do you think it is acceptable or unacceptable for the Trump administration to accept this gift?” respondents were asked by YouGov.
By a 47-30 margin, the respondents said taking the gift is “unacceptable.” Twenty-three percent said they were not sure.
Trump has vigorously defended acceptance of the jet — arguing it came with no strings attached.
“I would never be one to turn down that kind of an offer,” Trump said on Monday at the White House. “I mean, I could be a stupid person and say,
But many prominent figures on the Right — including Ben Shapiro and Laura Loomer — have come out strongly against taking the plane.
“I think if we switched the names to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, we’d all be freaking out on the Right,” Shapiro said on his show Monday. “Let’s say if Qatar was giving Joe a $400 million jet for his use at his presidential library after his presidency, or if Hunter launched a crypto firm with the son of Antony Blinken, and then launched a series of crypto products in which mysterious strangers, including foreigners who were investing, all while that crypto firm was being regulated by Joe’s administration, we’d all have been pretty upset on the Right.”
