A new poll of voters in Arizona from Emerson University suggests that Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake is on her way to another defeat, this time at the hands of Democrat Ruben Gallego.
According to the survey of 1,000 voters, Gallego would dispose of Lake by a 7-point margin (46%-39%) if incumbent independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I) decides not to run, and by 6 points (36%-30%) if Sinema (21%) does throw her hat back in the ring.
Gallego leads among men (44%-42%), women (47%-36), and independents (42%-30%) in the case that Sinema steps aside, and still does better than Lake with all three groups if she doesn’t.
What’s even more remarkable about Lake’s poor performance is that this same set of respondents actually broke for likely Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over President Joe Biden, 46%-43%.
The disparity between the support for Trump and Lake is notable given Lake’s prodigious efforts to tie herself to him. During her failed gubernatorial bid in 2022, Lake insisted that the 2020 presidential
Lake lost in 2022 after repeatedly insulting former Republican Senator John McCain, even telling “McCain Republicans” to” get the hell out” at one event shortly before election day. Lake has recently made an effort to mend fences within her own party, but that effort has been rejected by McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain.
“No peace, bitch,” replied McCain to Lake’s entreaties. “We see you for who you are – and are repulsed by it.”
