Reporter Bluntly Asks Todd Blanche If Trump Is ‘Undermining’ Supreme Court After Latest Attack

NBC News’ Garrett Haake questioned Attorney General Todd Blanche at the White House on Tuesday about whether President Donald Trump is “undermining” the Supreme Court with his latest attack.

Haake brought up a post from Trump’s Truth Social account in which he said the Supreme Court Justices “are not the people” he interviewed when nominating them.

“These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court; they are merely a shell of their original selves,” the president wrote after the Supreme Court ruled against him in restricting mail-in voting in the upcoming midterms.

The president claimed the decision creates an “open field” for Democrats to cheat in the midterm elections.

“On the comments from the president specifically that these Supreme Court justices in this decision aren’t the people he interviewed, does that undermine even the perception of the court’s independence, in your view?” Haake asked.

Blanche declared that the Truth Social post does undermine the court’s independence in “any way, shape, or form.” He also blasted the media as pushing that narrative.

He said:

Look, what happened after the Dobbs decision? Members of Congress, the administration — [people] came out basically threatening judges for months on end. There’s a full security force around every Justice because of the rhetoric after the Supreme Court issued that decision. And so the fact that President issues a Truth saying that the Justices that he interviewed, in front of him, you know, six, seven years ago, eight years ago, are not the Justices he’s seeing now, that undermines — no, I don’t think in any way, shape or form it does that. I think that’s just something that the media wants to put on it. He has — the president should be communicating to the American people about cases that are extraordinarily important to him, which this one is.
