‘Stunning!’ Steve Kornacki and Kristen Welker Reveal Trump Now Topping Biden for the First Time Ever in NBC Poll
Former President Donald Trump is now leading President Joe Biden according to the latest NBC News poll — the first time Trump has ever led his successor in that network’s poll.
Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker and national political correspondent Steve Kornacki revealed the network’s latest poll Sunday morning — which, according to Welker, contained several “stunning highlights.” Most notable among the polls findings was Trump’s success in a head-to-head matchup with Biden, which the 45th president is now leading by a 46-44 margin
“In 2019, 2020, when Trump was president, he trailed [Biden in] all of [NBC’s polls],” Kornacki said. “This year he’s trailed all of them … first time in more than a dozen polls we’ve seen a result like this.”
Kornacki pointed to several metrics he believes contributed to the changing dynamic of the race — including the likability of the two candidates.
“Look at the start of this year, 39 percent said they had a positive view of Biden,” Kornacki said. “Barely 30 of Trump. We’ve seen consistently a gap like this. Now the gap is gone, 36 positive on both.”
Further, the poll finds Biden is hemorrhaging support from younger voters — thanks largely to their opposition to his handling of the Israel-Hamas war. Just 20 percent of voters aged 18-34 approve of Biden’s handling of the war, while 70 percent oppose it.
Despite several recent polls showing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with more than 20 percent support, the third party candidate was not included in the new NBC poll.
