Trump Chastises Reporters In Oval Office For Asking About Musk-Rubio Clash: ‘Not Supposed to be Asking That Question’
President Donald Trump chastised reporters in the Oval Office on Friday after they asked him about a New York Times report that Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio clashed at a recent cabinet meeting. Trump was meeting with the head of FIFA to unveil the latest World Cup trophy.
“Since you spoke about it yesterday. Some details have come out about your cabinet meeting, Elon Musk and potential clashes with Secretary Rubio–” began an off-camera reporter as Trump cut in:
No Clash I was there. You’re just a troublemaker. And you’re not supposed to be asking that question because we’re talking about the World Cup. Elon gets along great with Marco, and they’re both doing a fantastic job. There was no clash.
“Who are you with? Who are you with?” pushed back Trump as the reporter answered. “No wonder that’s enough. NBC,” Trump added.
“Any other questions about the World Cup?” Trump concluded.
Axios’s Marc Caputo reacted to the clash on X, writing, “I was chasing this story today about the row between Rubio & Musk and got beaten by the NYT (sad!) It definitely happened. Had it not, Rubio & Musk would’ve been out w/instant denials Trump is signaling he wants this quashed.”
The Times reported on a verbal spat between Musk and Rubio during the cabinet meeting, writing, “Mr. Musk was unimpressed. He told Mr. Rubio he was “good on TV,” with the clear subtext being that he wasn’t good for much else. Throughout all of this, the president sat back in his chair, arms folded, as if he were watching a tennis match.”
“After the argument dragged on for an uncomfortable time, Mr. Trump finally intervened to defend Mr. Rubio as doing a “great job.” Mr. Rubio has a lot to deal with, the president said. He is very busy, he is always traveling and on TV, and he has an agency to run. So everyone just needs to work together,” added the report.
During another exchange in the Oval Office and Friday, Trump shutdown a reporter asking the same question, saying, “Enough. Enough.”
