A striking auto worker ripped Jim Cramer in colorful fashion after the CNBC host suggested the big three U.S. auto manufacturers handle the strike by moving their operations to Mexico.
The man, identified as Floyd, is a United Auto Workers member and GM employee who, along with thousands of other workers, went on strike last month. The workers are demanding higher wages, cost-of-living adjustments, the elimination of a two-tier system of wages and benefits, and assurances that workers whose plants are shut down as part of the transition to electric vehicles will be properly compensated.
Cramer recently compared UAW President Shawn Fain to Soviet revolutionary Leon Trotsky.
“Shawn Fain, the guy who runs UAW, I find him frightening,” Cramer said on CNBC. “This man studied Trotsky. I gotta tell you, he studied Trotsky before – pre-ice pick in ear.”
He added:
I think there’s a nuclear option on the table if he’s not careful. And that nuclear option is a country called Mexico…Say, “Listen. You wanna know
where the new [vehicles] are gonna be made? We’re gonna continue to make the old ones. But Pueblo’s got a 55,000-person factory from [Volkswagen], and they got a good education. Workforce is $5 an hour. No real push control rules. That’s not to mention free healthcare. So, you know what? You wanna play ball? You wanna keep doing this? Mexico.”
“Glad to see you standing up for the American worker here, Jim,” said CNBC’s David Faber. “Thanks for that.”
Speaking with Jordan Chariton of Status Coup News in Lansing, Michigan, Floyd offered his reaction to Cramer’s remarks.
“Piece of shit,” Floyd said. “He needs to bring his fat ass to Lansing and get in one of these plants over there and see how it feels.”
“See how many people buy GM cars,” Floyd continued. “See how many people buy big three cars, period. You know, if they wanna shut down and go someplace else like that, that’s fine. Go ahead. Do it. But I’ve been– I’ve owned GM cars my whole life. They do that, I will never buy a GM car again.”
