NBC has removed legendary announcer Al Michaels from its NFL playoff coverage, The New York Post reported Tuesday.
The move was reportedly made without first informing Michaels.
Michaels is currently the play-by-play announcer for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football. He left NBC as its full-time Sunday Night Football announcer after the 2021-21 season, but called a playoff game for the network during the 2022-23 season. He was set to call one of the network’s four playoff games this season, but that slot has now been occupied by Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge — NBC’s no. 1 duo for college football. They’ll be joined by sideline reporter Kathryn Tappen.
As Post reporter Andrew Marchand noted, Michaels said in November that he expected to be in the booth for one of NBC’s playoff games. He appeared puzzled when told his status on the game was “in limbo.”

Behind the scenes, Marchand added, there was tension between Michaels and NBC’s executive leading up to his departure. Still, the two sides settled on giving Michaels an “emeritus” title that would see him occasionally call games.
Michaels has not commented on the move.
