AOC Revels in Trump-Musk Blowup: ‘The Girls Are Fighting, Aren’t They?’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) absolutely loved the drama President Donald Trump and Elon Musk authored on Thursday, as the two traded barbs on social media.
Musk fiercely opposes Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” that is before the Senate, calling it “a disgusting abomination” this week. Over on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said Musk had been “wearing thin” as the head of the “Department of Government Efficiency” and claimed Musk “went CRAZY” when the president asked him to leave the government when his term as a special government employee ended. Musk, in turn, said Trump should be impeached and claimed the president is in the files of deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Trump also threatened to cancel federal contracts with Musk’s SpaceX.
Amid the spat, a Spectrum 1 News reporter caught up with Ocasio-Cortez outside the Capitol and asked for her reaction.
“Oh, man, the girls are fighting, aren’t they?” she said with an all-timer of a grin. “You know, I would say that this was something that was a long time coming, where we’ve been seeing that these two huge egos were not long for being together in this world as friends. And so I think this breakup, we’ve been seeing a long time coming. But we’ll see what the impacts are of it legislatively.”
Later that evening, Musk appeared to signal he was backing off after an X account with fewer than 200 followers told him to calm down.
“This is a shame this back and forth. You are both better than this,” the account tweeted.
“Good advice,” Musk replied.
The Trump-Musk split had long been predicted by critics of the men, who insisted the “two huge egos” AOC referenced would inevitably clash.
“I don’t think you need to be a genius, though, to foresee that this eruptive and public display of divorce was gonna happen at some point,” Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) told CNN on Thursday night. “I mean, we had wagers going on on the floor.”
