White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp took a page from New York Jets great Joe Namath when she guaranteed that Donald Trump would emerge victorious in any impeachment proceeding.
While at least one elected Democrat has deployed Oedipal profanity in support of impeaching Trump, leaders like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have adopted a wait-and-see-what-Mueller’s-got posture. But on Monday morning’s edition of Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Schlapp boldly declared that impeachment would fail.
Anchor Bill Hemmer played tape of Speaker Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) taking the cautious approach, and then asked Schlapp “What is the reaction from the president when the talk of the ‘I-word’ comes up? Is it a fair assessment to say that when the topic is broached, that he, in a political sense, relishes that?”
Schlapp touted Trump’s “accomplishments,” and said that “if the Democrats want to keep their impeachment talk, where we know there is no collusion, where we have been transparent and cooperative in the process, is a losing strategy for them.”
She insisted that the American people want Trump and the Democrats to work together, and added that “If they want to use impeachment as their political maneuver, they can go and try, but let me tell you something, they will lose.”
Only time will tell if Schlapp ends
And before Shutdown Fever hit the news media, Cohen had also implicated Trump in lying to the American public, at a minimum, about his business dealings with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.
