Bolton Says Trump Thought It Would Be ‘Really Cool’ to Give Kim Jong Un a Ride on Air Force One: ‘Kim Was as Taken Aback as I Was’

John Bolton, who served as national security adviser under Donald Trump, confirmed a report by another Trump administration official that the former president offered Kim Jong Un a ride home on Air Force One.

Matthew Pottinger, former deputy national security adviser, told the BBC about Trump making the offer after their second summit in Vietnam.

During a conversation about North Korea, Bolton told Bloomberg on Wednesday he was in the room when Trump made the offer:

“I heard it and I didn’t respond at all, ’cause I was biting my tongue to avoid saying what I thought the response should be. It was a typical Trump offer on the spur of the moment. He thought it would be really cool to take Kim back home to Pyongyang. He didn’t think about any of the potential consequences or anything else. I think Kim was as taken aback as I was, that may have been a rare moment of agreement between the two of us.”

“Fortunately he said no, so we never had to worry about the consequences,” Bolton added.
