Former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) put it all on the line in 2012 when he claimed in a documentary film that he would smoke marijuana in order to encourage Centennial State voters to pass a referendum to legalize the possession and recreational use of marijuana. He did not think the amendment would pass – he was wrong. The referendum passed and marijuana use is now legal in Colorado. Ever a man of his word, Tancredo now intends to partake in the intoxicating substance himself.
Tancredo supported the proposal to legalize marijuana and appeared in a film promoting the proposed legalization of pot. He said, despite not having used marijuana himself, he would smoke it if the voters decided to legalize it.
Tancredo told Fox News on Wednesday that he intended to make good on his word soon.
“Look, I made a bet with the producer of the film that if Amendment 64 passed (I did not think it would) that I would smoke pot,” Tancredo said. “I will therefore smoke pot under circumstances we both agree are legal under Colorado law.”
