AIPAC President Criticizes Trump for ‘Ad Hominem Attacks’ Against Obama
Yesterday at the AIPAC Policy Conference, Donald Trump spoke and delivered some harsh criticisms of President Obama. Trump trashed Obama’s commitment to the state of Israel and said he “may be the worst thing to ever happen to Israel, believe me.”
Well, earlier today, the president of AIPAC herself actually scolded Trump for that.
According to Politico, during the conference today, Lillian Pinkus read a statement saying, “We say unequivocally that we do not countenance ad hominem attacks, and we take great offense to those that are levied against the United States of America from our stage.”
She made it clear that AIPAC holds deep respect for Obama and the office of the presidency and addressed the applause Trump received for those remarks:
“There are people in our AIPAC family who were deeply hurt last night, and for that, we are deeply sorry,” Pinkus said. “We are disappointed that so many people applauded a sentiment that we neither agree with or condone.”
Trump spoke yesterday using a prompter––a rarity for The Donald––and got a positive reception, even with the criticism of his statements of “neutrality” on Israel and Palestine lingering in the air (which he backed away from).
