CNN’s Jake Tapper reported in a tweet on Thursday morning that a source told him embattled Sen. Al Franken “believes he can no longer serve effectively as a senator,” and will resign:
The tweet comes less than an hour before Franken is set to take to the Senate floor to deliver remarks on the latest allegation of sexual misconduct leveled against him.
That latest allegation, made by a woman who accused the Minnesota senator of forcible kissing, prompted a rash of Democratic senators to call for Franken to resign, including Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

UPDATE: 11:18 a.m.: NBC’s Andrea Mitchell corroborated Tapper’s tweet with her own.
