Al Gore Files Lawsuit Against Al Jazeera for Fraud

Former Vice President and Current TV founder Al Gore has filed a lawsuit against Al Jazeera for fraud over the network’s acquisition of Current TV early last year. Reports by both Bloomberg and Politico say that Al Jazeera has been holding onto millions of dollars that Gore and his partner Joel Hyatt claim is theirs as part of the deal they made for the acquisition.

There is a lot of money, the complaint reads, that Al Jazeera has keep in an escrow account that belongs to Current Media shareholders.

In a statement, Gore’s lawyer said, “Al Jazeera America wants to give itself a discount on the purchase price that was agreed to nearly two years ago. We are asking the court to order Al Jazeera America to stop wrongfully withholding the escrow funds that belong to Current’s former shareholders.”

It should be noted here that last year, Gore himself was sued for the sale of Current TV. (Spoiler alert: it was dismissed.)
