Political correctness apparently exists in the literary world too, because author Anne Rice had a lot to say about it on her Facebook page this week.
Rice, best known for her works about vampires, led a discussion on her page earlier this week and ended with a long rant against literary censorship:
In another post, she pointed to dishonest Amazon book reviewers who “abuse the Amazon reviewing system to ‘take down’ authors who books they have not read — for political or religious or ‘social’ reasons.” She specifically pointed to the book For Such a Time by Kate Breslin, “a powerful retelling of the story of Esther during WWII,” which has gotten lots of one-star reviews from people calling it offensive, anti-Semitic, and all kinds of disgusting.
Rice thinks “internet lynch mobs” are just being too sensitive:
