Antonio Martin’s Grandmother Skeptical of Police Story: ‘I Want to See the Gun’

A police officer in Berkeley, Missouri fatally shot 18-year-old Antonio Martin late last night after, according to the St. Louis County Police Department, Martin pulled a gun on him. They released video purporting to show Martin taking out a handgun and pointing it at the officer.

But Martin’s grandmother has some doubts about that version of events, and told as much to The L.A. Times today. Margret Chandler said she wants all the facts and evidence to come out so she can fully understand what happened.

She said, “If he was in the wrong, I want to know he was in the wrong. I want to see the gun in his hand. I don’t want them to tell me he had it. I want to see it.”

Chandler was skeptical because, as she explained, she worries about some police officers doing “dirty things,” even saying, “They just wait until nightfall to see some young black men and gun them down.”
