According to a report in The Washington Post, a source close to Judd said that the actress passed on the chance to run for Senate in Kentucky in order to avoid running in a primary race against Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Grimes.

Judd’s potential candidacy against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell drew national headlines. While she received encouragement from the likes of Kentucky Rep, John Yarmuth, other Democrats in the state expressed apprehension about her candidacy.
