Axelrod: Obama Doesn’t Accept That Election Was ‘Verdict’ on His View of Direction US Is Headed

David Axelrod spoke with CNN’s Jake Tapper today about the big takeaways from his interview with his former boss, President Obama.

Obama thinks he could have beaten Trump if he ran this year, and as Axelrod conveyed, “He doesn’t accept that the election was a verdict on his view of where the country should be going.”

The president said on the campaign trail that his policies are on the ballot, but in reflecting on the race, his comments make it clear that Obama thinks Hillary Clinton‘s loss was partly due to messaging issues.

Tapper pointed out that part of this could have been Obama himself not spending enough time and attention on the rural areas that his party as a whole didn’t.
