In light of Donald Trump‘s most recent slams against the press, Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse wants to know if the president is going back on his vow to uphold the First Amendment.
Are you recanting of the Oath you took on Jan. 20 to preserve, protect, and defend the 1st Amendment? pic.twitter.com/XLB7QXM3bQ
— Ben Sasse (@BenSasse) October 12, 2017
Sasse was referencing the Oath of Office, which involves the president’s promise to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The senator’s remarks came after Trump jabbed at NBC over their Wednesday report on how the president supposedly wants to drastically increase the American nuclear stockpile. The most prominent part of Trump’s slams was the moment he recommended that the government challenge NBC’s broadcasting license, along with other news sources who scrutinize him with their reporting.
Trump topped off his anti-media comments during a conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saying its “disgusting the press is able to write whatever it wants to write.”
