Bill Clinton: Hillary’s ‘Dead Broke’ Comment Is ‘Factually True’

Bill Clinton today defended his wife’s recent comments about how they were “dead broke” after they left the White House. Hillary Clinton got into some hot water for comments about their family’s wealth recently, but the former president pushed back against the idea she’s out of touch.

Clinton was speaking with David Gregory at a special Clinton Global Initiative event when the issue of the Clintons’ wealth popped up. Clinton said his family has been working with and on behalf of the middle class for years, and said of the “dead broke” remark, “It is factually true that we were several million dollars in debt.”

That being said, Clinton did acknowledge that Hillary didn’t exactly “give the most adept answer” to those questions. In addition to the “dead broke” comment, the likely 2016 contender said this week their family is not “truly well off.”
