Bill Kristol Says GOP Should Select Trump’s VP For Him ‘Given Chance of Impeachment’

Weekly Standard editor and #NeverTrump mainstay Bill Kristol believes that if the Republicans can’t deprive Donald Trump of the nomination, the party should at least impose its VP pick on him “given chance of impeachment,” he wrote on Twitter Friday morning.

Kristol’s remarks follow reports of the implosion of the effort to mount a viable independent conservative candidate.

For weeks, Kristol had teased that he was working on recruiting a third-party challenger with a “strong team and a real chance.” 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Sen. Ben Sasse were frequently floated as possibilities. Bloomberg revealed on Tuesday that Kristol had been trying to draft David French, a conservative author, attorney, and veteran. French declined to run,and Kristol has been lately focussing his attentions on the possibility of unseating Trump through “delegate revolt” at a contested convention, or as he glossed it, a “Convention of Conscience.”
