The Science Guy’s edu-tainment career has seen a rejuvenation in recent years, offering scientific commentary and criticism on political ideas dealing with climate change, the teaching of evolution, and similar topics.
In this latest video, Nye describes the “life at conception” argument as scientifically incomplete, and that anti-abortion laws would be a waste of effort over impossible semantics. “We have so many more important things to be dealing with, we have so many other problems,” Nye said. “To squander resources on this argument based on bad science, on just lack of understanding, is very frustrating.”
Nye goes on to explain how various arguments submitted by anti-abortion activists have been scientifically debunked, and that new studies on conception challenge many of the common understandings. Nye also said that closing abortion clinics and limiting birth control would not lead to healthy effect on society, and that women alone, should decide what to do with their bodies.
“Just really be objective about this,” Nye says. “We have other problems to solve everybody. Let’s work together.”
